A full air-suspension system is a fully automatic (adjustable) solution for suspension problems. The existing leaf or coil spring is replaced by a complete air-suspension system (including bellows, shock absorbers, compressor and an electronic control unit).
The air-suspension system filters road-surface imperfections, thus improving the ride comfort. While driving, the vehicle will constantly remain at the ride height, as set during assembly. This will be lower than the original ride height of the unloaded vehicle. In addition both the road holding and the stability of the vehicle will be improved, which in turn will enhance the safety. When the vehicle stands still, with the parking brake used, it is possible to raise and lower the rear of the vehicle to ease loading and unloading.
Auxiliary suspension systems offer the possibility to, within limits, control any suspension problems oneself. Leaf-sprung vehicles and coil sprung vehicles require different auxiliary suspensions.
On a vehicle with leaf springs, an air bellow is fitted between chassis and rear axle. This bellow supports the existing leaf spring.
A vehicle with coil springs will take an air bellow inside the coil spring to support the spring
As an option, the system can be extended with a pressure control system. Likewise, a further extension is possible with a (extra heavy) compressor kit.
